Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Responsible for performing bookkeeping tasks related to the processing of premium payments, commission, billing, refunds and cancellations per various plan and state guidelines. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.

  • Verify incoming payments to determine acceptance
  • Review and investigate proof of payment
  • Sort, batch and input heavy volume of payments for various lines of business
  • Process send-backs (return payment due to cancelled policy status)
  • Prepare and enter daily deposits
  • Enter credit card payments
  • Process deposits via Remote Desktop
  • Reconcile system reports
  • Follow plan and state rules and regulations, escalating issues to upper management  
  • Assist with testing of changes in a model office environment
  • Prepare notice of cancellation
  • Process minimum commission adjustment
  • Request return premium and commission payments
  • Sort, batch and input payments from collection agency
  • Reverse write offs
  • Assist with special projects (special investigations inquiries, audits, etc.)

Minimum Skills and Competencies:

  • High School Diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Experience in billing and collection
  • Works independently with little supervision
  • Effective organization and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure and adhere to project deadlines
  • Must possess effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish working relationships with individuals at varying levels with the organization
  • High degree of accuracy and timeliness

 Desired Skills:

  • Prior bookkeeping experience
  • Detailed oriented and ability to multi task
